Design for a glass roof over an historic ruin

2018

This design has been produced in order to bring this landmark ruin back into relevant use.    The structure is entirely self-supporting, with the weight being distributed evenly over the whole floor area.  The glass enclosure is supported off stainless steel gothic trusses, and the glass overhangs the ruined walls to provide protection, but does not rely on the walls for support. The whole of the new structure is removable, and this modern intervention is therefore reversible.   The total transparency enables users and visitors to fully appreciate the textures of the existing structure.  This design was protected in 2018 via EU Community Registered Design No 00565078
