This new house is powered by solar panels mounted on the outbuilding seen in the foreground and on the rear southern slope of the main building. The north facing glazed wall allows distant views to the Thames estuary at ground level and from the upper bedroom balcony. The reflected light provides glare-free soft illumination throughout.

The living areas are provided with a multi-fuel stove for the colder months, but the owners have said it is not required to supplement the solar powered heating system as the house is so well insulated.
